OSSM Partners with Boeing to Enhance STEM Curriculum at Altus High School

OSSM Partners with Boeing to Enhance STEM Curriculum at Altus High School

The Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics (OSSM) announced today its partnership with Boeing to offer advanced science and math classes to Altus High School students as well as students in the Altus area. OSSM will use the grant from Boeing to extend Altus High School’s STEM curriculum to include Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus BC, Multivariate Calculus, Calculus-Based Physics, AP Physics C Mechanics, AP Statistics, and AP Computer Science. Instruction will be live interactive video combined with visits by faculty who will conduct hands-on labs with Altus students.

“We are excited about this partnership opportunity with Boeing,” said Frank Wang, Ph.D., president of OSSM. “Our mission is providing instruction in advanced and college level science and math in a high school setting, and we look forward to doing so in Altus.”

OSSM has had a long-standing partnership with Boeing to help strengthen its pre-engineering curriculum at its main campus and to bring advanced math and science curriculum to school districts across the state. OSSM’s goal is to collaborate with Oklahoma school districts to serve as many students as possible with continuing academic challenge in math and science.

“At Boeing, we believe in building a diverse STEM-educated talent pipeline, and that means providing opportunities to students across Oklahoma,” said Kristin Holland, community investor at Boeing. “Through our partnership with OSSM, Altus students will have a unique opportunity to gain the 21st century skills necessary to fuel our state’s future STEM workforce needs.”

In addition to the main residential campus in Oklahoma City, OSSM has eight satellite locations (Drumright, Enid, Muskogee, Okmulgee, Poteau, Stilwell, Tahlequah and Wayne) in which students take classes in Calculus, Physics, Statistics and Computer Science. OSSM also operates a Virtual Regional Center in which students can receive instruction online combined with periodic face-to-face visits from an OSSM instructor to conduct hands-on labs.
