Announcing the Sarkeys Foundation Summer Math Institute and the OSSM Summer Science Institute: Supporting math and science education in the state of Oklahoma
June 3 (8 a.m.) to June 7 (early afternoon)
Mark your calendar or forward the information:
OSSM will host two summer institutes for middle school teachers: The Sarkeys Foundation Summer Math Institute and the OSSM Summer Science Institute (link to application below). These five-day learning experiences provide Middle School teachers with knowledge and hands-on experience and take place at the picturesque OSSM campus in Oklahoma City.
The Summer Math Institute features informative lectures and demonstrations, hands-on sessions and field trips. Nationally recognized speakers and math educators present at the event. Additional speakers include STEM professionals and students completing doctorates in education who address topics at the forefront of education. Earn 26 hours continuing education credit.
The Summer Science Institute showcases engaging, hands-on instructors in several science content areas (Biology, Chemistry, Geosciences, Physics/Engineering) as well as special-topic presenters and local field trips. Participating teachers will receive a collection of free classroom materials and science supplies. Earn 30 hours continuing education credit.
We invite you to be challenged, inspired and more. All participants receive a $300 stipend and a certificate of attendance. The certificate recognizes a desire to improve math / science education in schools and satisfies requirements for professional development.
Meals and housing (for those who wish to stay on campus) are provided.
Due to limited space, participants are selected from a pool of applicants. Preference is given to applicants who have not previously attended this program. Teachers from rural areas are especially encouraged to apply.
Here’s what some of our participants say about the program:
“I learned something from every session….This program will help me walk into the classroom this coming year as a different teacher.”
“[The speakers] gave me the most useful info that I can use in my classroom. I loved the field trips. They gave me info for career guidance and some things to consider in my own life.”
Registration is now closed. Please contact Sara Marie Bodenstein (sara.bodenstein@ossm.edu) or Clint Givens (clint.givens@ossm.edu) for waitlist information.
