High School Student (for students in 9th and 10th grades in fall 2024) Summer Science Workshops

Held in June, the OSSM One-Day Science workshops introduce students to various science and engineering careers.

The Medical Careers Workshop introduces participants to various medical professions. Professionals and hands-on activities highlight the workshop. Healthcare and Medical Careers Workshop: Friday,
June 14, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Additionally, the Engineering Workshop explores engineering careers and provides laboratory demonstrations from local professional engineers and college professors. Engineering Workshop: Friday, June 21, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The workshops are for students entering 9th or 10th grades next fall. There is no registration cost, and all supplies are provided. Lunch is also provided at no cost. Students with food allergies or a special diet should bring a sack lunch. Registration is limited to 50 students.

Finally, The OSSM Science in the Summer Lab Day encourages hands-on participation and exploration of common techniques and practices in a typical laboratory.  LAB Day: Thursday, June 27, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

IMPORTANT UPDATE:

Workshop hours: 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Please be on time!
Drop-off at the gazebo gates – look for the OSSM white banner with blue lettering
Elementary-style drop-off and pick-up of students (Pay attention to pedestrians attempting to cross the parking lot.)
 
If your child has been approved for onsite registration, walk your child to the gate and complete the required paperwork.
 
We do not have space for parents or guests to wait on campus. There are several establishments, restaurants, and parks within 5-15 minutes of the OSSM campus.
  • Students will rotate through multiple 50-minute sessions during the day.
  • Presenters will be a combination of OSSM professors and local professionals.
  • All material will be provided.
  • Masks are optional but not required.
  • Cell phones will be collected at the beginning of each class and returned at the end of the day – unless otherwise needed.
  • Backpacks, laptop computers, I-pads and other electronic devices are restricted and should be left at home.
  • Water bottles are permitted in buildings and classrooms.

Attire – regular school clothing – school uniforms are not required

Bring a sweater or light jacket in case the classrooms become too cool or cold.

If your child suffers from food allergies, you may bring your own lunch.
