Safety and Campus Security

OSSM’s 32-acre campus is located in the heart of Oklahoma City and in the shadows of OU Health Center campus.

As part of its campus security program and to ensure the safety of its students, staff and faculty, OSSM has video security cameras mounted throughout the campus facilities. OSSM also employ 24/7 campus security staff to monitor the campus activity.

As an additional measure of security, all buildings are locked 24/7 and require Electronic ID Card Access.

Due to COVID-19, OSSM has implemented a new visitor policy, which conforms to CDC guidelines.

Identification Cards

The OSSM student ID card serves as their room key as well as the building access pass.  The Identification Card is also necessary to check out any materials from the Shedrick Library. Students should carry their ID cards with them at all times.

Lost Room Key or Access Pass

If a student loses a room key or access pass, replacements can be obtained from the Chief Fiscal Officer, Ms. Shannon Gorbet, in the Shedrick Library office area.  All students will be charged a small fee for replacement.

If a student is locked out of their room, they should contact the Resident Assistant at the Dan Little Residence Hall front Desk in the Great Hall.

Severe Weather

Tornado

If the National Weather Service issues a tornado warning for Oklahoma County, the Civil
Defense Sirens will sound (these sirens are tested every Saturday at 12pm). If the sirens sound for a tornado go to the basement level of the Great Hall, in the Dan Little Residence Hall. You will be directed by staff as what to do, when you enter the building.

This location is the only tornado approved location on campus. It will accommodate the entire student body, faculty and staff.

Flooding

Remove belongings from the floor, if possible. Small items of value may be taken with you if you must leave. Move to a higher floor in the building. If sidewalks and streets are overcome with water, do not evacuate the building. Move to a higher floor.

Snow and Ice Emergencies

Weather-related updates, including any announcements about canceled classes or closing the campus will be posted on our video monitors in the foyer of the Great Hall and in the Manning Academic Center (MAC).

Lost and Found

If you lose anything, stop by the Safety and Security Office in the entrance to the Shedrick Library building to see if it has been turned in. If you find anything that has been lost, bring it to the Security Office.
