Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics Offers Free Summer Programs
for Middle and High School Students
Classes Prepare Students for Upcoming School Year, Minimize Learning Loss

Registration is now open for OSSM free summer programs for middle and high school students. Co-Sponsored with the Williams Companies of Tulsa, the classes are free, including registration and lunch.

“Summer is a great time for family, travel and fun,” said Tony Cornforth, president of OSSM. “Breaks like these serve a great purpose, however, the length of the summer break can lead to learning loss. Research shows that students can lose up to one month of math skills over the summer. OSSM is helping families prepare their children for the upcoming school year and counter that loss through several free academic opportunities for students.”

The schedule begins in June with one-day math workshops for students entering grades six, seven, and eight in the fall. All materials, including lunch, are provided. Through the free workshops, OSSM faculty and local master teachers will help middle school students prepare for the upcoming school year and learn math through a fun and interactive approach. The classes will be held June 10-12, June 17-19, and June 24-26, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students can attend as many sessions as they choose.

For high school students, OSSM hosts three career-exploration workshops in the summer. The workshops are for students entering ninth and tenth grades next fall. There is no registration cost, and all supplies, including lunch, are provided. These include the Healthcare and Medical Careers Workshop on June 14, the Engineering Workshop on June 21, and the Science in the Summer Lab Day on June 27, all from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
