Every June, OSSM hosts two summer institutes for middle school teachers: The Sarkeys Foundation Summer Math Institute and the OSSM Summer Science Institute . These five-day learning experiences provide Middle School teachers with knowledge and hands-on experience and take place at the picturesque OSSM campus in Oklahoma City. The goal is to excite them about the upcoming school year through new teaching ideas and techniques.

This year’s event is June 3-7 and features informative lectures and demonstrations, hands-on sessions and field trips. On Monday, KFOR meteorologist Damien Lodes spoke to the teachers about teaching the subject of weather in Oklahoma. Labs and other activities continue throughout the week. On Tuesday, the group will attend the baseball game in Bricktown.
