Dr. Michelle McCargish

Dr. Michelle McCargish completed her Ph.D. in American History, specializing in the early-nineteenth-century American South in 2018. She holds a master’s degree in American History with an emphasis on the Gilded Age and Progressive Era from Oklahoma State University. Before joining the faculty of OSSM, Michelle had six years of teaching experience at Oklahoma State University and Western New Mexico University utilizing both face-to-face and online classroom models. She continues to teach the US History Survey and select upper-level courses at Oklahoma State University. In 2019, she was the Oklahoma National History Day Teacher of the Year and received the University of Chicago’s Outstanding Educator Award in 2021. At OSSM, she teaches the United States History courses as well as elective seminars including History of Medicine and History of Organized Crime and oversees student mentorships. Dr. McCargish is also the coordinator for the Peer-Associated Learning Support (PALS) academic mentoring program and the sponsor for the OSSM Academic Quiz Bowl Team and the National History Day competitors.
