The Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics (OSSM) completed its 2022 Investigative Research Scholars Program (IRSP) last week. Over the past three weeks, nearly 20 OSSM students worked with research laboratories throughout the Oklahoma City metro to get hands-on experience in their chosen field. Participating institutions included the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF), Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center (OUHSC), and Oklahoma State University. Students conducted research in the areas of pharmaceutical sciences, physics and astronomy, genes and human disease and many others.

Mentorships are a distinguishing component of the OSSM curricula. Through the IRSP, OSSM students work with more than 60 academic institutions, businesses, nonprofit organizations and government agencies in the Oklahoma City are. Through these partnerships, the students earn the opportunity to work alongside professionals in many fields including research, medicine and engineering.
