Corey Schneberger, a ’99 alum now living in OKC as an engineer with Chesapeake Energy, grew up in Rocky, a Western Oklahoma small town, and attended Sentinel School prior to OSSM.  The challenge and opportunity that OSSM offered interested him, so he applied and was accepted into the Class of 1999.

Following OSSM, he attended Oklahoma State University and earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He then went into the US Navy nuclear propulsion program. After earning a commission and serving six years in the Navy, including a tour aboard USS SCRANTON (SSN-756) and the Operational Test and Evaluation Command both in Norfolk, VA, his wife Meredith and he were ready to return home to Oklahoma.

Meredith (also an OSU ME that served in the nuclear Navy) and I both found work in the energy industry in OKC. He has worked for Chesapeake for more than 10 years in various functions from wellsite supervisor, operations engineer, production engineer and has spent the last several years as an engineering supervisor for production and infrastructure engineering in the South Texas team.

“I will say that my time at OSSM prepared me very well for each phase of life that followed,” he said. “The lasting impacts went beyond the foundational education in math, science, English, literature and critical thinking. The experience itself was one that helped me understand how I would evaluate and address challenging times in my life.”

Continuous improvement in both technical performance and teamwork are the areas he most enjoys focusing on at work (and home). Those areas seem to make sense, given the influence from OSSM, OSU Engineering, Navy Nuclear Propulsion Training, immediately followed by the implementation of said training in military operations and then the energy industry.
