Due to inclement weather, including lightening and heavy rain, OSSM’s Class of 2021 graduation will be held in the school gym. However, we will host a celebration of the students at the State Capitol this afternoon, May 21, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. We will take photos and video of the students walking to the Capitol as well as getting their diploma from Dr. Wang. Parents are invited to attend the celebration, which ends at 4 p.m.
The campus will remain closed until 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 22. All guests will be required to sign a waiver, found here.
Graduation will now be held in the school gym, which opens at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 22. Seating is first come, first served, and students are limited to six guests each. The ceremony typically lasts about 1.5 hours.
For 2021, OSSM is honored to have Dr. Noor Jihan Abdul-Haqq be the featured speaker. A proud member of OSSM’s class of 2000, she is a board certified pediatrician from Oklahoma City. She graduated from Spelman College with honors with a degree in Biochemistry. Her medical school and residency training were completed through Morehouse School of Medicine where she was active with various medical organizations.
Dr. Abdul-Haqq has done medical work in Barbados, Dominican Republic and Mexico. Her awards include the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine award, Practitioner of Excellence Award from Sisters United Organization, Journal Record’s Achievers under 40 award and Outstanding Minority owned business leader. Most recently Dr. Abdul-Haqq was awarded the Healthcare Heroes award by the Journal Record. She also has been interviewed numerous times on local radio, TV and print media.
