Dr. Caleb Lareau (Class of 2011)
Assistant Professor, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

Dr. Caleb Lareau leads a research lab at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), where he uses artificial intelligence and molecular biology to develop next-generation cancer therapies. His work focuses
on improving the safety and effectiveness of cancer therapies, including immunotherapies for blood-related cancers.

Among his scientific contributions, Dr. Lareau played a key role in characterizing a dangerous complication of viral reactivation in engineered cell therapies. After identifying the issue in lab models, he partnered with a fellow OSSM alum, Katie Maurer, to characterize the effect in patients. Their efforts have contributed to changes in guidelines from the FDA for the treatment of cancer patients with certain types of cell therapies. He later
collaborated with on related safety research.

A native of Enid, Oklahoma, Dr. Lareau attended the OSSM Enid Regional Center in 2008-2009 before graduating from the Main Campus in 2011. He went on to earn degrees in Biochemistry and Mathematics summa cum
laude
from the University of Tulsa, a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from Harvard, and postdoctoral training at Stanford. Recognized as a Forbes 30 Under 30 in Science and a STAT Wunderkind, he has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles to date, including manuscripts as a lead author in NatureCell,
and The New England Journal of Medicine.

Dr. Lareau credits OSSM with launching his scientific journey and celebrates the growing network of OSSM alumni changing the world through science, technology, and medicine.
