Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics Named Best Public and STEM High School in Oklahoma by Niche

Leading STEM School Also Ranks #20 of 19,984 in Nation

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sept. 23, 2021 – The Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics (OSSM) announced today it was named 2022 Best Public High School and Best STEM School in Oklahoma by Niche. Rankings are based on school statistics and the opinions of students and parents. Additionally, OSSM is ranked #20 out of 19,984 high schools in the nation, placing OSSM in the top one-tenth of 1 percent of all public high schools in the United States.

This is the third consecutive year OSSM has been identified as the state’s leading public and STEM high school.

“OSSM is said to have the most rigorous curriculum of its kind in the nation,” said Frank Wang, PhD, president of OSSM.  “Our students come from the entire state for our world class faculty and academic program, which prepares students for college, graduate schools and careers in STEM.  We are proud that through their work and companies that they found, OSSM graduates help fuel Oklahoma’s economic engine.”

Based in Pittsburgh, Pa., Niche’s team of data scientists evaluates countless data sets to produce rankings, report cards and in-depth profiles. The large data sets come from the Department of Education, U.S. Census, and the FBI. It combines this analysis with feedback from the community.

Niche made a change to its methodology this year, putting less emphasis on SAT and ACT scores, with leaders saying it was an effort to acknowledge “socioeconomic and racial disparities perpetuated by standardized tests, challenges making appointments to test in-person due to COVID-19, and an increasing number of institutions adopting test-optional policies.”
