How to Apply

Before You Apply

Review the admissions requirements.

Eligible applicants may apply downloading the application. There is no application fee and no tuition for Oklahoma residents.

In order to complete the 2018-2019 application process and be considered for admission to the Class of 2021, applicants must complete ALL of the requirements within the required timelines.

Note to Applicant

Admission is competitive and enrollment is limited.  Satisfying the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.

Step 1: Determine If You Are Eligible

Applicants must currently be enrolled in the 10th grade.

It is the policy of the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics to enroll only students who are legal residents of the State of Oklahoma, or whose parent or legal guardian is an active duty member of the armed services who is abiding in Oklahoma incident to active military duty, provided the student shares the residence of that parent, by December 1 of the school year in which the student applies for admission (the 10th grade year) and who otherwise meet the admissions criteria of the School.  The state legislature has a provision that allows OSSM to enroll up to 10% of its students from international countries or from states outside of Oklahoma.  Those students will be subject to all applicable tuition, fees and room and board.

Step 2: Complete Application

The application is available September 11, 2018.   All OSSM applications must be completed and postmarked no later than midnight on March 1, 2019. Applicants must have completed each section of the application by the deadline to be considered for admission.  There are no exceptions to this deadline.

Questions for determining residency are determined by the Office of Admissions.  Some applicants may be required to provide additional documentation and will be contacted by admissions after their application has been submitted.

Step 3: Take the ACT

All applicants must take the ACT as a part of the application process. Applicants do not have to take the ACT before beginning the application process: however the ACT must be taken before the March 1st deadline.

OSSM does not require the Essay portion of the new ACT.

Only ACT score reports from tests administered on these dates will be accepted:

  • February 2017

  • February 2018
  • April 2018
  • June 2018
  • July 2018
  • September 2018
  • October 2018
  • December 2018
  • February 2018

For students requiring testing accommodations due to disabilities, review the College Board website as test registration and administration dates can vary.

We recommend applicants take the ACT prior to the February 2018 test date.

To ensure results are sent directly to the Office of Admissions, include our school code #372684 to have the score report sent to Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics.

Step 4: Obtain Teacher & Counselor Evaluations

Applicants must obtain evaluations from three teachers and his or her current guidance counselor and/or principal. Applicants must have a teacher evaluation form completed by their:

  • 9th or 10th grade Science Teacher
  • 9th or 10th grade Mathematics Teacher
  • 9th or 10th grade English Teacher

It is the responsibility of the applicant to ask their teachers and counselor to complete an evaluation on their behalf and have them sent to the Office of Admissions.

The deadline for receipt of Teacher and Counselor Evaluation Forms is March 1, 2019.

Teacher Evaluation and Counselor/Principal Forms are included with the application materials.

Step 5: Submit an Official High School Transcript – Including the Fall 2018 Grades

The deadline for receipt of the official transcript is March 1, 2019.

Step 6: Attend SOAR (Student Orientation, Advising and Registration)

SOAR will occur on May 29  (Students are required to attend.)

At SOAR, residential applicants will take the OSSM math placement test.

All admitted students MUST be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Parents will attend an information session highlighting academics and student life.

Details about SOAR will be sent after students have received notice of their acceptance into OSSM.
