Dr. Brian Chance holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. in English, German Studies, and Philosophy from Middle Tennessee State University, where he graduated summa cum laude. He was a Fulbright Fellow in Berlin, Germany from 2001-2002, where he studied German literature and Philosophy at the Free University and Humboldt University. Before his appointment as Professor of Humanities at OSSM in 2014, Dr. Chance taught at the University of Pennsylvania, University of Tennessee, University of Oklahoma, and University of Central Oklahoma. He has presented papers at numerous international conferences, including at Brown, Northwestern, and Yale; and his research has been published in many peer-reviewed journals and collected volumes.
At OSSM, Dr. Chance teaches half of the senior humanities sequence and is the faculty sponsor for OSSM’s Ethics Bowl teams. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, yoga, board games, and trying to maintain his modest skills as a pianist and fiddler.
