Dr. Brian A. Chance holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. in English Literature, German Studies, and Philosophy from Middle Tennessee State University, where he graduated summa cum laude. In 2001-2002, he was a Fulbright Fellow in Berlin (Germany), where he studied German Literature and Philosophy at the Free University and Humboldt University.
Prior to his appointment as Professor of Humanities at OSSM in 2014, Dr. Chance taught at the University of Pennsylvania, University of Tennessee, University of Oklahoma, and University of Central Oklahoma. He is the author of a dozen academic papers and has presented his work at the NCSSS professional conference, Brown, Northwestern, Yale, and numerous international conferences.
At OSSM, Dr. Chance teaches courses in literature, ethics, and emerging technology and is also the sponsor of OSSM’s Ethics Bowl teams. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, yoga, board games, building things with his son, and trying to maintain his modest skills as a pianist and fiddler.
