FacultyCLASS STRUCTURE Students participate in an activity two days per week. Students rotate their choice of activity each of the six-week grading periods. All students are given the opportunity to be a captain. Students are encouraged to explore a variety of activities and to discover those they enjoy which will promote a lifestyle of fitness awareness.ACTIVITIES Aerobics Badminton Basketball Circuit Training Disc Golf DDR Elliptical Machine Flag Football Kickball Pilates Punching Bag Quidditch Rowing Machine Running Club Sand Volleyball Soccer Speed bag Stationary Bikes Tai-Bo Team Handball Treadmill Run/Walk Ultimate Frisbee Volleyball Weight Training Yoga Some students have practiced for Service Academy Fitness tests while others have participated in home high school sports programs. PRESIDENTS COUNCIL FITNESS During the first and second semester students will participate in the Presidents Council Fitness program which consists of a shuttle run, crunches, pull-ups, and the mile run. In 2009 twelve students qualified for the National Award (scoring at or above 50 percentile on all five events). OPEN GYM POLICY In addition to regular class time usage, the gym is open to all students and faculty in the evening and weekends to allow additional workout opportunities.EQUIPMENT TEAM ACTIVITIES Students are encouraged to participate in competitive games such as: Juniors/Seniors Flag Football, Juniors/Seniors Handball, Juniors/Seniors Basketball, Students/Faculty Volleyball, and Juniors/Seniors Volleyball. COACHES Two coaches supervise the gym and frequently design personal fitness programs for students and faculty. Coach Avy Doran begins her second year at OSSM, while Coach Dan Vossen begins his fifth full year. |
