OSSM to Graduate 16th Class
Editor: printed below is a list of graduates, their
hometowns and home high schools. For
your convenience, they are listed in alphabetical order by the county in which
they reside, so you can easily identify students from your area.
On
Saturday morning, May 26, 2007, at 10:00 a.m., on the south steps of the Oklahoma State Capitol
Building, members of the
Class of 2007, the 16th class to graduate from the Oklahoma School of Science
and Mathematics, will cross the dais to receive their diplomas. The 60 students that make up the graduating
class come from 23 of Oklahoma’s
77 counties. They included 14 National
Merit Finalists, and four Commended Scholars; four candidates, two
semifinalists, and one finalist in the 2007 Presidential Scholars Program; two
Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence Academic All-State Scholars; 25 College Board
Advanced Placement Scholars; two Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation Sir
Alexander Fleming Scholars; and 19 Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education
Scholars; a member of the 2007 United States Physics Olympiad Team; and the
First Place Team in the United States Physics Bowl in the category for
specialized math and science schools.
The Class has an average ACT composite score of 31.6, and has received
scholarship offers in excess of 5.5 million dollars.
OSSM is Oklahoma’s
tuition-free high school for juniors and seniors who have exceptional ability
in math and science. During their two years at OSSM, students have participated
in a rigorous academic program. In
addition to high-level courses in the sciences and mathematics, the curriculum
includes exemplary programs in computer science, humanities, the arts, and
physical education. In two years, OSSM
students must complete nine semesters of science, four semesters of mathematics,
English, Social Studies, foreign language and physical education, two semesters
of fine arts, and one semester of computer science. Weekly, each science class features a
three-hour lab session.
Many of the graduating seniors plan
to attend college in Oklahoma at the
University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, and the University of Tulsa. The students who have chosen to attend
college out-of-state will be attending some of the most prestigious
universities in the country including Amherst College, the University of
Alaska, Baylor University, Boston University, Brown, CalTech, University of
California-Santa Barbara, Carnegie Mellon, the University of Chicago, Colorado
College, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Duke, Georgia Tech, Graceland University,
Harvard, Knox College, Michigan State, the University of Missouri-Rolla, MIT,
Carolina State, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Randolph-Macon, Rice, the University
of Rochester, Rutgers, Stanford, UT Dallas, and Vanderbilt.
To celebrate their many accomplishments,
a reception for the graduates will be held on the lawn adjoining the south
plaza immediately following the commencement exercises.
