"The most rigorous program of its kind in the nation." Julian C. Stanley

Our annual mathematics competition for sixth, seventh and eighth grade students, OSSM Middle School Math:  An Awesome Contest  is a two-round event that begins early in spring semester.

Round One features a forty-minute test with questions based on topics that address the mathematics in Priority Academic Student Skills (PASS).  The question sheet is formatted for easy scoring.  One copy of the question sheet, an answer key, an answer explanation sheet and a cover letter is forwarded to teachers of middle grades mathematics across the state.  Teachers are free to duplicate the test. Test Questions and Answers are posted on our website www.ossm.edu  after the annual math contest has been completed.  We encourage teachers to use a class period when convenient, generally late January or early February, for students to participate in Round One. <>
After Round One is administered at the local level, we ask that a teacher mail or email to OSSM the names and addresses of the school’s three top scorers.  Those top scorers are invited to participate in Round Two on OSSM’s Oklahoma City campus which takes place in early March.

Following an hour-long test, Round Two participants and their parents or other chaperons are the guests of OSSM for lunch in the Dan Little Residence Hall and are escorted on campus tours by current OSSM students.  The day’s activities conclude with an awards ceremony.

All Round Two participants receive certificates to acknowledge their achievements.  Awards for top performers are made in several divisions according to school area population.

Previous years' contest questions can be accessed here.
