Overview
OSSM gained Internet access in November 1992 with the installation of a fiber optic connection from our main academic building to the ONENET main router in Oklahoma City. Students access the Net from Pentium-based personal computers, a DEC 5000 workstation, a Sun Sparcstation 20 MP, a Sun Sparcstation LX, and (on weekends and holidays) via dialup from home. The personal computers are served by Netware file servers.
Data Rates
All computers have a Fast Ethernet
(100MB/s) connection to the local network backbone. Our physical
proximity to the State's primary network hub permits the campus to access
the Internet with a dedicated Ethernet (10MB/s) connection.
Dormitory Access
All network access, including Internet,
is available in the dormitory via small PC labs on each of the six floors.
Students who elect to bring a PC and network card to OSSM are provided
with a 100BaseTX connection in their dorm room.
