For Prospective Students:
Admission to the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics is a highly competitive process initiated by written application. Approximately 70 to 80 students are selected each year from an applicant pool of three hundred students.  Since accepting its first juniors in the fall of 1990, OSSM has selected students from all of Oklahoma’s 77 counties.  Students make application for admission in their sophomore year for a two-year course of study beginning in their junior year.

The application consists of several interest inventories, written essays, parent statement, recommendations from an English teacher, mathematics teacher, science teacher, principal and counselor, student transcript and ACT score.

Shadowing
Sophomore students are encouraged to "shadow" an OSSM student prior to making application. Prospective students will spend an entire school day (8am-4:30pm) in class. They will attend classes, eat lunch and view the dorm. To schedule a shadow, call the Admissions Office at (405) 521-6436 or email admissions@ossm.edu. "Shadows" can be arranged with a few days notice.

Review Process
A committee comprised of OSSM faculty and volunteers from throughout the state reviews applications.  Applications are screened blindly, that is, all reference to the student’s last name, town, school and other applicant data is removed before the committee reviews each folder.

All applications are ranked and a select number of students are invited for an interview.  Interviews are always scheduled for the last Saturday in April.  Following the interview a composite score is compiled for each applicant.  Finalists are selected from this roster.

Student Selection
Students are notified by June 1 of each year whether they have or have not been selected as a finalist.  All finalists are requested to sign a Letter of Intent advising of their decision to attend OSSM.  Orientation meetings are held in June to assist the upcoming junior class in the educational and emotional transition to OSSM.

Requesting an application
The application material for the Class of 2011 is now available on line. You may print and use the electronic copy to apply. Application booklets become available in January each year. Students may call, write or email the school to receive an application booklet if a paper copy of the application is preferable to the online copy.

You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader (available for free download)  in order to view and print the online application.

The online application can be filled out using Acrobat Reader and printed. However, be aware that unless you have the full version the of the Acrobat software on your computer, you may not be able to save your completed application for further processing at a later time.
